August was a month of catching the macaron and various pastries baking bug. (Say it with me altogether now – mack-uh-rons! Well actually there’s two ways of pronouncing it but I stick to ‘macarons’ because people might confuse macaron/macaroon yet if you google ‘macaroons’ you’ll still see the French sweet pastries.) I’ve never shown much interest in my mum’s baking in the kitchen before, besides taking them for granted and consuming them, so this sudden craze was a bit of a surprise for the family.
I’m the kind of person who keeps a vigilant 24/7 eye on the oven when something is baking. Have some time lapse gifs of baking things swelling and expanding.
I made a Hello Kitty batch for Joanna’s birthday (=’.’=)
After 8 batches of hollow shells, spilled stomachs, feetless shells, cracked shells, I’m confident to say I have nailed the macaron recipe! But macarons are tricky,
sly, conniving thieves, and then sometimes just sometimes there’s the luck factor. They’re definitely challengingly fun to make though, you should try baking some and gain satisfaction when you conquer macaronage.
My little bro excelled at making popcorn.
There were chiffon cream filled cupcakes mum made to imitate a certain H cupcake, oh the yums
Cream puffs with custard (
fish fingers!) and cream filling
dusted with icing sugar
^ Does this arrangement remind you of a certain lazy orange cat because it reminds my mum and I of that cat.
Nope, not Leo’s birthday. He just makes a good prop sometimes. All the time.
Last but not least, giant choc chip cookies. This batch is the sweet too sickeningly sweet batch, I’ve modified the sugar amount since. Heh but they still look good eyh
Man, this has been a food post. At 1130p.
